The Institute of Community and Family Health, Inc. (ICFHI) started as a social arm of the Children’s Medical Center, Philippines, Inc. (CMCP) in 1973; and became an independent foundation on September 2, 1993; and, registered as a Graduate School with the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) in 1994. The mission of the Institute is to support national and local efforts in the promotion of Health of all Filipinos with emphasis on the poor, which constitutes the majority of the population of the country. It believes that the community is both a recipient and active participant in the health and socio-economic development in partnership with the government and non-government sectors. Thus, aware of the health problems and other local needs and resources, the ICFHI regards the community as an important partner in the identification, analysis and solutions of their health problems. As presently constituted, the Institute is a private, nonstock, non-profit corporation, governed by a Board of Trustees and manned by technically equipped dedicated men and women involved in the pursuit of the following major programs: 1) Academic Post-Graduate Course: • Training of professional health workers leading to the degree of Master of Public Health. 2) Non-Academic Continuing Education: • Training of professional health worker on Primary Health Care, Management of Health Services, and related subjects; and • Training of indigenous health workers and lay health care givers (mothers, domestic helpers, etc.) 3) Research and development of community health and related problems, and the utilization of the Primary Health Care (PHC) approach as a means to improve health care and the delivery system, in collaboration with different national and international Institution; and, 4) Consultancies and technical assistance in public health projects, especially related to the adoption of PHC approach to health development in collaboration with the Children’s Medical Center Residency Program, the Department of Health, and other government and non-government heath agencies
